Maintenance Tips: How to Keep Your Surveillance System Running Like New
You’ve done the research, bought the OHWOAI gear, and spent a Saturday installing your wired surveillance camera system. Now what?
Like a car or a home HVAC system, a security camera setup requires a little bit of love to ensure it stays in peak condition. You don't want to find out your cameras were "blinded" by a spiderweb only after a package goes missing.
Keep the Lenses Clean
This sounds obvious, but it’s the most neglected part of maintenance. Outdoor security cameras are exposed to pollen, dust, rain spots, and bugs. A quick wipe with a microfiber cloth every few months can dramatically improve your 4K clarity. If your camera is high up, a can of compressed air or a soft brush on an extension pole can do the trick.
Check Your Connections
The beauty of a wired surveillance camera system is its stability, but you should still check the "health" of your cables once a year. Look for any signs of wear on the cables exposed to the sun or any loose connections at the back of the NVR. OHWOAI uses high-quality connectors, but ensuring they are tight and dry is a pro move.
Update Your Firmware
Just like your smartphone, your surveillance camera system runs on software. Manufacturers like OHWOAI occasionally release firmware updates to improve performance, patch security vulnerabilities, or add new features. Check the settings menu in your app every once in a while to ensure you’re running the latest version.
Clear the View
Vegetation grows faster than we realize. A branch that was six inches away from the lens in the spring might be blocking half the view by mid-summer. Trim back any bushes or trees that might interfere with the camera's field of view or trigger false motion alerts during a windstorm.
By spending just 15 minutes a season on these basic tasks, you ensure that your investment stays sharp and ready for when it matters most.
